We have completed an update of the Porsche back-up open page which brings two add additions, one of which is a real doozy.
With one exception, the majority of other models such as the Cayenne and Panamera feature a handle that’s become very popular in the industry. The key hole is immediately exposed when the handle is pulled to the open position, without the need to deal with an insert (right), and there are no more two piece handles. The handle rotates from the front. Remove the key once the vehicle is unlocked, release the handle and pull to open.
Macan EV
The exception is the new electric Macan. The instructions are quite detailed and reads like this:
Pull the driver’s door handle firmly five times beyond the first snap-in position.
Within ten seconds of doing so, hold the vehicle key on the area of the windshield above the vehicle identification number. See the image to the right.
The vehicle will then unlock.
The Tesla Model S has you place the key fob on the passenger side windshield wiper. Given our experience with the Model S, note that it may take 30 seconds for the fob to be recognized. Or, due to the additional handle manipulation, it may take multiple attempts to get this right.
Smart Keys or Intelligent Keys, or Access Keys — or whatever the manufacturer of your chooses to call them — that let you into your car and start it with just a touch use up their internal batteries at alarming rates, catching busy drivers unawares — even though the car had tried to warn you.
