Jaguar back-up start option reveals three model changes

Jaguar back-up start

An update of Jaguar back-up start locations finds changes in three models: the XE, XF, and F-Pace. All the changes came in 2020 and 2021 — its been too long since we updated!

If you’re wondering, back-up start locations are made necessary when the battery in the key fob is depleted, which happens more frequently than you might expect.

All three models before 2020 used a location found on the side of the steering column. Now, all three models use a location on the left side of the dashboard.

XE back up start positionWe can note that Jaguar has used s similar location in the past, which may be the source of the move. In any case, beginning with  a change of newest Smart Keys in the 2020 XE, the new location was introduced. The Smart Key needs to be laid flat against the underside of the dashboard, below existing switches with the buttons facing out. There is an indent in the dash to help identify the correct spot.

The key fob must be held against the while stepping on the brake and pressing the start / stop ignition button. The XF and F-Pace saw the change with the 2021 model year.

If the mechanical key was used to enter the vehicle, the alarm will have been blaring during the time it took to start it…

Smart Keys or Intelligent Keys, or Access Keys — or whatever the manufacturer of your chooses to call them — that let you into your car and start it with just a touch use up their internal batteries at alarming rates, catching busy drivers unawares — even though the car had tried to warn you.

Our goal is to help you feel safe — and keep you moving or get you moving if at all possible — rather than leave you fretting whenever your key fob stops working. The instructions for getting into and starting most keyless start cars can be found on our pages — without roadside assistance.
