Computer replaced and we’re back to work

We are back in business and back to work updating the Audi symbols page with a brand new laptop with all the old files restored. Pulling together the software we commonly use was a bigger chore.

Seven new symbols have already been added, and there are as many as 40 to go! They really take informing their drivers to an unnecessary level…

I want to note here that had I been using the cloud, its quite possible that a new computer would simply have configured itself to my liking. I have a distrust of the cloud which perhaps today is unfounded, but for the moment I remain reluctant to pull that trigger.

A good friend noted that he has had to replace an Apple laptop for work twice, and the experience was exactly as I described: back up and running with the input of a user name and password.

In any case, all of this is just in time for the Auto Show in New York. I will be on my way there tomorrow, where I hope to get some video of new Lexus, Honda and Acura models hiding their key holes behind a new cap with new removal procedures.

Cars are changing, and among those changes is the growing number of symbols and indicators that will invariably show up on your dashboard or instrument panel. Every year, new features are added to vehicles, each of which is accompanied by a new symbol or symbols and likely a new abbreviation or acronym.

At DashboardSymbols.com, our aim is to help you understand what is happening to your vehicle at the first sign of trouble — a new warning light illuminated on your instrument panel. Its all here on this website. Our first intention is to bring the latest technologies down to earth and understandable for everyday drivers.

Our still evolving Audi symbols page can be seen here.

Remember that only proper service and repair procedures will ensure the safe and reliable operation of your car. In addition, proper safety procedures and precautions, such as the use of safety goggles, the right tools and the equipment should be followed at all times to eliminate the possibility of personal injury or improper service which could damage the vehicle or compromise its safety.

Technology is always changing and what is current and accurate today may be literally out-of-date and inaccurate tomorrow. And when it comes to the current state of flux in the auto industry, nothing is more true.
