In an interview with Walter Isaacson at the Aspen Ideas Festival and reported by Business Insider, Ford CEO Jim Farley, speaking on EV progress in China, “It’s the most humbling thing I have ever seen. Seventy percent of all EVs in the world, electric vehicles, are made in China.”
Not only that, but Farley had a Chinese Xiaomi Speed Ultra 7 shipped to the U.S., has been driving it for six months, and won’t give it up!
Further, the company appears to be throwing in the towel. It still plans a $2 billion switch from electric to hybrid SUVs!
Farley was quoted as saying “Seventy percent of all EVs in the world, electric vehicles, are made in China. They have far superior in-vehicle technology. Huawei and Xiaomi are in every car. You get in, you don’t have to pair your phone. Automatically, your whole digital life is mirrored in the car.”
He added that its “the most humbling thing I’ve ever seen.”
Ford Motor Co. may be on the right track. Washington is ditching its support for a clean energy transition across the board.
In late May, InsideEVs noted that Politico had what they called the best explanation for why the change in direction is occurring, quoting:
“…China has already won the clean energy race, due in part to practices such as forced labor, massive subsidies and intellectual property theft — and playing in that game would make the United States the loser. They want the U.S. to focus on energy sources it already dominates, including oil, natural gas and coal.”
