Cadillac may call it Arrival Mode, but it’s CrabWalk baby!

All wheel steer offIn the process of finishing an update of the Cadillac symbols page, we found that the Escalade EV has all wheel steering and its symbol when turned off (left) looked very familiar. Sure enough its an exact match for the GMC Hummer EV, which uses the all wheel steering system to do what it calls CrabWalk!

The Escalade can essentially perform the same maneuver, but Cadillac calls it  Arrival Mode and doesn’t give it its own symbol. The descriptions are essentially precisely the same: it “allows the driver to turn the rear wheels at the same angle as the front wheels until the rear wheels reach a stopping point, enabling the vehicle to move diagonally.”

Crab walk indicatorCrabWalk! According to GMC it “allows the driver to turn the rear wheels at the same angle as the front wheels enabling the vehicle to move diagonally.” Very nearly word for word.

We suspect that Cadillac was not impressed with the somewhat churlish term used by GMC. It may also be that Hummer customers were simply not impressed and CrabWalk did nothing for sales.

To us, its somewhat sad as the CrabWalk symbol is easily one of the sharpest we’ve seen and is very much representative of the system. This is not something that can be said of many other symbols.
