Hyundai emergency start page to get a forced overhaul

A review of Hyundai emergency start procedures finds three surprising changes that will force a complete overhaul of the page.

The company has for years used the simplest of methods as an emergency back-up start — push the start/stop button with the key fob. Now, Ioniq 9 and Palisade models in 2026 require that, if the vehicle does not respond to the fob, it must be dropped in one of three places on or near the center console!

This actually prompted a look to ensure that a start/stop button is still in use, which it is. We checked because as an EV the Ioniq 9 in particular might have been set up to work like a Tesla or Polestar, where starting the vehicle is a simple matter of putting it into gear.

The spot is marked with what we believe is the image of a key.

It is either under the heat/AC controls in the center of the small storage area (right) or the rear cup holder (far right).

In these cases, there is no indication that the spots are actually marked!

We will next be re-working the emergency start page for Hyundai, and likely separating it from Kia and Genesis.
