Automatic exterior lights mode indicators

Automatic exterior lights

These are Automatic Exterior Lights Mode Indicator symbols. This lamp is seen in green when the vehicle’s exterior lights are operating in auto mode. Headlamps will turn on in darkness or dark areas and off when there is adequate ambient light. Other exterior lamps remain on.

  • Before continuing, is this truly your symbol?? If so, continue on.
  • If not, you can return to our main Manufacturer Symbols pages and scan again!

The symbol is seen as circle with lines radiating out and the word auto beneath. In white, which adds the exclamation point inside the bulb is confusing. It is generally associated with a fault and it is noted as some kind of warning. Check that the sensors are not blocked.

This version, used by Alfa Romeo, was listed as an Automatic Low Beam indicator, which seemed redundant as their vehicles are equipped with an Auto Dimming function (as below). However the description of the function clearly indicates that the system simply turns the exterior lights on or off depending on ambient light and turns the headlamps on to low beam.

Auto mode also includes the Automatic Headlamp or High Beam Dimming function. See more more on that subject here.

Technology is always changing and what is current and accurate today may be literally out-of-date and inaccurate tomorrow. And when it comes to the current state of flux in the auto industry, nothing is more true.
