Charged to 100%

A bit ago, I noted that Kia recommends charging the Kia  Niro EV to 100% once a month. So, I charged to 100% two days ago with astounding results.

For the record, I don’t put many miles on the car and will likely only charge to 100% every other month.

First note that car has an EPA rated range of 250 miles. I had already seen wide variations due to temperature, with summer extrapolations to about 280 miles dipping to 230 miles over the winter.

But the full charge this round reached 311 miles (316 miles a few weeks later!). Extraordinary. I had previously extrapolated a 90% charge to 307 miles, itself already a terrific number.

I’ve also posted on X that the car routinely sees 5 miles per kilowatt in the warm weather compared to am industry average closer to 3.5.

That extrapolates out to 324 miles on the 64.8 kW battery, but some of that is not useable.

Overall its been a very satisfying range experience in the Niro.
