Chrysler recalls electric models for rollaway risk

Rollaway risk

We spotted and reposted a NHTSA recall on the 8th that simply said 2024-2025 Chrysler Dodge Charger and Jeep Wagoneer S electric vehicles. Recalled for vehicle rollaway risk.

We had to dig a bit deeper. Jeep Wagoneer models have had previous rollaway issues.

This link will take you to a fuller description of the recall. FCA US, LLC is recalling certain 2024 and 2025 Dodge Charger and Jeep Wagoneer S electric vehicles. The wording is vague and a local Dodge dealer was unfamiliar with the recall, but Chrysler confirmed that this involves only electric models of both the Charger and Wagoneer.

Evidently a spring was incorrectly installed that could cause the loss of the park function when the gear selector is placed in the park position. This would likely result in a vehicle rollaway.

And there’s a Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) that this violates. Number 114, “Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention.”

Not sure that a standard needed to be written to make sure manufacturer’s vehicles don’t roll away, but there you are: rollaway risk violates a safety standard.

The recall also notes that only 75 vehicles are likely involved and that a vehicle identification number search would be available at NHTSA on September 11. However, owner notification letters will not be mailed until September 25.

Dealers will replace the electric drive module, of course without charge. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403. Have your VIN # at the ready.

In the interim, be extra careful when parking.
