Polestar interior emergency release is an intuitive breeze to use

Interior emergency release

We had an opportunity to spend some time with a Polestar 3 and got some video of the interior door handle. The interior emergency release is easier to use than the company, or companies, describe.

As with too many features described in Polestar and Volvo owner’s manuals, there are no images available of the interior door handle. Well, we now have its use on video.

Polestar and Volvo both describe the emergency open as to “release the door latch mechanically, pull the lever all the way up using some force.”

As can be seen in the gif file to the right, it doesn’t take a lot of force to get to the secondary, or emergency, stage.

The gif doesn’t include the sound, but, with power, the latch release is clearly heard, and the extra pull creates a separate and distinct release sound.

And while this makes for an intuitive move for someone caught inside any of these vehicles with no power, we continue to question the use of an electronic latch when a back-up mechanical release will be necessary.

The video is again, of a Polestar 3. We expect Volvo models equipped with electronic latches to behave very similarly.

We’ve added the video to our Get Out page, which can be seen here
