In its release of monthly motor fuel prices the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported a price dip in December 2025. The average price for regular motor gasoline was $2.89 per gallon; down 5.1% from November 2025 and down 4.1% from December 2024.

Regional changes were striking. Average gasoline prices in the Rocky Mountain region was $2.58, which was down a full 9.0%. Prices in the Midwest dropped 7.3% to $2.74.

However, prices on the West Coast actually rose 1.7% to $3.87. It was the only region to record an increase.

The average price for diesel no. 2 was $3.62 in December 2025, down 5.4% from November 2025, and up 3.5% from December 2024.
