Hyundai uses a number of different ways to start the vehicle if the Smart Key battery is weak or the Smart Key does not work correctly. For a time, the company are migrated all their models to the first method below, but have backtracked a bit in 2026.
If your start battery is still good, we’re going to get you going! Just follow along.
Many of the images you will see on this page are numbered, which is left over from our original organization of the emergency start options.
The spot is marked with what we believe is the image of a key.

Models examined include Accent, IONIQ, Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, Ioniq 9, Kona, Elantra, NEXO, Palisade, Santa Fe, Sonata, Tucson, Veloster and Venue. Model years 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026.
