A review of GMC emergency start processes for 2025 and 2026 models finds three new emergency back-up start processes.

These processes are necessary in the event that the battery in the key fob dies or if there are radio signal interfering with the fob.

In what has to be a true frustration for GMC drivers, the company now has a full dozen emergency start transmitter slots for its models.

In this round, we added a new slot for Sierra 2500/3500 (right) heavy duty models and another for the Sierra EV (far right).

Its true that both of these use the left side cup holder, the center console configurations are very different and warrant separate consideration.

Sierra models alone now use five different back-up slots.

The other new offering belongs to the 2025 Terrain. This “slot” is simply a spot on the console just above the cup holders (right). There is a small marking on the spot.
