Speed assist page created to simplify active cruise control

Speed assist.

While finishing the update of the Ford symbols page — which has added dozens of entries by the way — we came across a pair of new predictive speed assist indicators.

And rather than add them to the already bloated Active and Advanced Cruise Control page, we pulled six existing symbols from the page to create a new page.

Sadly, this still leaves 66 different indicators on the original page.

Predictive speed assist is a system that works hand in hand with adaptive cruise control and adjusts the vehicle speed to the road geometry.

The symbols in question (right) are seen when curves are detected. And they are not the first ones we’ve seen, as noted.

The new page includes eight in total and are identified alongside the manufacturers who use them.

Given that the page still includes an additional 66 images, we will be on the lookout for other opportunities to simplify it. For example, there are 10 fault symbols on the page that might warrant their own.

But for the moment, it feels as though other issues are more important. Manufacturers take any excuse to to create new images that, while similar to some in existence, are different enough to warrant proper treatment.

In fact, we have entries from Jeep that include two different sets of active cruise control indicators used in the same model years! It’s drivers who pay the price.

We have already begun separating out entries by manufacturer, which is helpful to users as those entries can be accessed through a table of contents.

We’ll keep at it…

Remember — only proper service and repair procedures will ensure the safe and reliable operation of your car. In addition, proper safety procedures and precautions, such as the use of safety goggles, the right tools and the equipment should be followed at all times to eliminate the possibility of personal injury or improper service which could damage the vehicle or compromise its safety.

Technology is always changing and what is current and accurate today may be literally out-of-date and inaccurate tomorrow. And when it comes to the current state of flux in the auto industry, nothing is more true.
