Mitsubishi emergency open and start review complete

Mitsubishi review.

A review of Mitsubishi emergency open and start processes for 2026 models that use the company’s keyless start system is complete. The review finds no changes.

Emergency or back-up open and start processes are necessary when the battery in the key fob is depleted or when radio interference is encountered.

The company’s Free-hand Advanced Security Transmitter or F.A.S.T. system is note deployed fleet wide. It is optional in some Eclipse Cross and RVR models.

In fact, the RVR is the last Mitsubishi vehicle still using a slot for an emergency, or back-up start. The key fob must be inserted into the slot so that the car can recognize it.

All other models use the simple “press the start/stop button with the fob” back-up style.

Finally, Mitsubishi, to their credit, remains one of the few manufacturers who have not succumbed to the desire to hide the key hole behind something that requires removal. The key hole is simply visible at the back of the driver’s door handle.
