Lincoln emergency entry review for 2026 finds no changes

Lincoln back-up entry.

A review of Lincoln emergency entry procedures using the mechanical key finds no changes for the 2026 model year. These procedures are necessary in the event of a vehicle power failure, the battery in the key fob is depleted or there is radio interference causing a problem.

Lincoln is a rarity in that it supplies a key pad for use with a code to unlock their vehicles. This, of course, will not be unavailable in the event of a power failure. But the mechanical key will still work.

And it being the 21st century, Lincoln provides a an app that can access the vehicle as well, which will also be unusable in the event of a power failure.

Speaking of which, Aviator and Nautilus models use an electronic lock and latch system. Should either vehicle experience a power failure, the doors are supposed to pop open automatically. That is electricity is, in effect, used to keep them closed!

Also, if the mechanical key is used in one of these vehicles, the effect is to pop open the driver’s door. We have a video showing this you can see here.

All of Lincoln emergency open procedures can be found here.
