Rivian R2 added to Emergency Escape page

Rivian R2.

We have updated our Emergency Escape page with the processes necessary to manually open the doors the new Rivian R2 if the power is lost.

We will note that Rivian says that in the event of a collision or power loss, the R2’s power supply and distribution systems will continue to support the electronic latches. This is the case in the earlier models.

Nonetheless, if they are not working, there are options. Exiting the R2 from the front is similar to the R1T and R1S, but the handle is further forward on the armrest. Pull the handle (number 2, right) to open the door.

Unfortunately, exiting the rear of the R2 with no power again requires removing a panel. Much like when we first added the other models, we have not seen one yet, but we are hopeful that the company has made this at least a little more obvious.

Start by pulling off the panel shown at the front of the armrest (first image). The image at least suggests that there is a handle to get hold of.

Once that is done, a pull cable appears (second image). In fact, it looks like it is attached to the panel itself.

We’ll be on the lookout for one we can work with.
