This is the (Electric Vehicle) EV Operation Indicator symbol, found in hybrid vehicles. Most hybrid vehicles give the driver the option to choose to use only the electric motor(s), at least in special situations.

This symbol will appear on the instrument panel when a switch – likely showing the same symbol – is activated.

The vehicle will revert to “normal” operation when the accelerator pedal is depressed hard or quickly, when the speed gets high enough or when the hybrid battery’s power gets too low.
