E-latch system fault indicator

E-latch system

This is an E-latch system fault indicator symbol. The inevitable spread of electronic systems has moved to, perhaps inevitably, door latches. E, or electronic, -latches are not actually new and already require mechanical back-up unlock options if the battery in the key fob or the 12-volt start battery dies.

  • Before continuing, is this truly your symbol?? If yes, read on below.
  • Otherwise, you can return to our main Manufacturer Symbols pages and scan again!

The warning light may show an open door on either side of the image of the car, meaning that the driver or passenger side door lock may have an issue. Your local dealer or a very good repair shop will be needed. Don’t delay.

This system comes courtesy of Fiat and the 500e. The doors can be unlocked using a mechanical key from the outside (see this link) and can be opened from the inside using a mechanical handle below the armrest (right).

We are not in the auto repair business nor do we publish automotive service manuals. Nothing we include on these pages and posts has been reviewed, approved or authorized by any vehicle manufacturer.

Remember that only proper service and repair procedures will ensure the safe and reliable operation of your car. In addition, proper safety procedures and precautions, such as the use of safety goggles, the right tools and the equipment should be followed at all times to eliminate the possibility of personal injury or improper service which could damage the vehicle or compromise its safety.

Technology is always changing and what is current and accurate today may be literally out-of-date and inaccurate tomorrow. And when it comes to the current state of flux in the auto industry, nothing is more true.
