Egress Warning

This is an Egress Warning Indicator symbol. It appears as a vehicle seen from above with an open door and two curved lines outside of the door. Its the warning, from Porsche, makes occupants of a vehicle when the stationary aware of road users, such as cars, motorcycles, or bicycles approaching from behind.

  • Before continuing, is this truly your symbol?? If yes, read on below.
  • Otherwise, you can return to our main Manufacturer Symbols pages and scan again!

The system uses sensors in the rear bumper to measure the distance of the detected road users to their own vehicle. If a vehicle occupant opens a door while the danger of approaching road users is detected, the indicator in the door mirror and another indicator in the door panel flash briefly.

Limitations include road users that are approaching extremely slowly or extremely quickly; the sensor field of view being restricted by vehicles parked in the vicinity; or the sensor field of view being restricted by dirt on the rear bumper.

The symbol is the first of its kind we’ve seen, although we are aware that Tesla has a system that won’t allow a door to be opened in similar circumstances, and only places a warning message on the center screen.
