Engine stop

This is an Engine Stop Indicator symbol. If this is seen, the engine has stopped, making the indicator nearly pointless. According to the manufacturer who uses this symbol, Audi, it likely means an engine or fuel system malfunction. Again, not much help.

The symbol is the outline of an old-style 8-cylinder engine seen from the side with a line drawn through in red. The company notes that, is the shut off occurs while in motion, it will require more force to both steer and brake. However, the power steering is electrically driven, so it will continue to work so long as there is sufficient battery power.

No other information will be offered by the instrument panel. A good repair station will clearly be needed.
