How to Open and Start a Lucid with a Dead Key Fob

This page holds all of the emergency open and start or back-up open and start procedures needed for Lucid vehicles if the battery in the key fob dies or if there are electrical signals interfering with the fob.

The Lucid Key Card

Lucid key fobs do not include a mechanical key and the company’s Key Cards will be needed. There is also a mobile app available, but we will focus on materials supplied by the company.

With Lucid Air models, hold the Lucid key card just below the center of the driver’s side center pillar and above the camera to lock or unlock the doors. The spot is unmarked (right).

* For the record, we tried using the key fob rather than the key card on the pillar as a test. We were not able to unlock the car.

To lock or unlock the doors of the Gravity SUV, tap the Lucid key card on the Near Field Communication (NFC) logo of the driver’s side central pillar. The NFC logo has lines radiating outward and lies above the center of the pillar and the pillar camera (right).

Starting Your Lucid

Air

To drive the Lucid Air after using the key card, you will need to enter the profile pin to enable driving. The pin can be entered via the Pilot Panel after stepping on the brake pedal. After entering a valid pin, the vehicle can be operated until the driver’s door is opened again, which resets the need for authentication.

Gravity

Gravity models operate a little differently. To drive, tap the Lucid key card near the bottom of the wireless charging pad over the charging symbol (right).

We see no reason why this couldn’t at least be tried in an Air model as well!

Note: If you have made an attempt to start the vehicle without success, there may be residual pressure in the brake system and a new warning light may appear (left) or text message to Step on the Brake. Press the brake pedal very, very hard when trying to start the vehicle again to be sure that the release switch behind the pedal is engaged. Or wait a few minutes and try again.

Models examined include Air and Gravity for model years 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026.
