Drive mode

This page holds Lexus Drive Mode Indicator symbols. The list of drive modes on our original page grew so large it became apparent that separate manufacturer pages would be appropriate.

Note that if you are surprised to see one of these it is likely a drive mode has been accidently activated via one of the buttons on the steering wheel.

Some traditional drive mode indicators that have been in use for some time include Snow mode and Custom mode. They are relatively self explanatory, although Custom mode involves choosing various suspension, steering and handling settings.

Eco mode and Range mode are used when fuel efficiency is prioritized. Range in particular is applied primarily to hybrid models, where the high-voltage battery use is optimized for long duration use.

These are essentially repeats of previously used indicators, but are shown in black and white. Black and white images are becoming a standard with use of information screens in instrument panels. Comfort modes also include the choosing of driving parameters.

In some models, Lexus offers Sport modes in various flavors, Sport, Sport S and Sport S+, each with increasing levels of suspension stiffness and handling responsiveness.

Lexus is wrapping the side of the digital speedometer with drive mode indicators, in truth, too many for the average driver to wrap their heads around much less their speedometers. Given that they are in text, they can be easily understood.

Finally, the company has a large set of special drive modes for 4-wheel drive vehicles that can be found here.

If you’re seeing one you don’t expect, check the manual for where it can be changed. These are all in shades of black and white.

Remember — only proper service and repair procedures will ensure the safe and reliable operation of your car. In addition, proper safety procedures and precautions, such as the use of safety goggles, the right tools and the equipment should be followed at all times to eliminate the possibility of personal injury or improper service which could damage the vehicle or compromise its safety.

Technology is always changing and what is current and accurate today may be literally out-of-date and inaccurate tomorrow. And when it comes to the current state of flux in the auto industry, nothing is more true.
