Drive modes

This page holds Lincoln Drive Mode Indicator symbols. The list of drive modes on our original page grew so large it became apparent that separate manufacturer pages would be appropriate.

Note that if you are surprised to see one of these it is likely a drive mode has been accidently activated via one of the buttons on the steering wheel.

First up is a relatively benign mode. At the far left is a Normal Mode Indicator. It is a simple set of lane lines included the hashed lane separator. Most manufacturers include indicators only when their vehicle is not in normal mode.

This is either an ECO Mode Indicator or a Conserve Mode Indicator. They mean exactly the same thing.  Early models call it ECO Mode, while later models now call it Conserve. In fact, later models may also present the symbol in black and white.

Regardless of name, this mode may reduce the setting of the air conditioner or the amount of torque delivered to the drive system. A fuel-use meter may also be visible on the instrument panel of vehicles with an ECO mode option.

These are Slippery Mode Indicators, which may be seen in black and white or in yellow/amber/orange. This mode lowers accelerator responsiveness, adjusts transmission shift points, and optimizes traction and stability controls to help mitigate wheel spin and maintain vehicle control in slick driving conditions.

Depending on the vehicle’s options, this feature adjusts the all-wheel drive control to provide optimum traction for slippery surfaces.

This is a deep Snow Mode Indicator. Generally seen in yellow/amber/orange, later models may display this symbol in black and white. This mode also lowers accelerator responsiveness and delays transmission upshifts for improved vehicle control in low speed off-road environments.

The system optimizes the traction and stability controls for improved traction and to help maintain forward
momentum through loose deformable terrains. Depending on the vehicle’s options, the system disables auto-start stop and optimizes the all-wheel drive system for enhanced traction.

This is an Excite Mode indicator. This mode increases accelerator pedal responsiveness and holds the transmission in lower gears longer for enhanced acceleration. The system switches the chassis controls to their sport settings. Depending on the vehicle’s options, this feature sets the exhaust to a louder tone, inhibits auto-start stop, increases steering torque buildup, and adjusts the suspension.
